Grades for Internet Marketing Strategies

You should read carefully pages 3-5 to understand NYU grading and the course assignments. This posting shall serve as an explanation to grading weekly assignments.

All weekly assignments are due at the beginning of each week's class. If the assignment is posted to your blog, then the blog should be updated and published by 6:10 on Monday. If the assignment is due to the instructor, then it should be turned in during class.

I randomly ask 2-3 students at the beginning of each class to review their week's assignment. Each student will have the opportunity to present to the class at least once during the course.

To receive the full 10 points for each weekly assignment, I am looking for work that reflects a full 2-3 hours of research and writing and shows an understanding of the assignment. Typically I read each student's assignment and choose those assignments that are the best in class. These assignments get the full 10 points and the rest of the class is graded accordingly. If you do your assignment on time, put in the 2-3 hours, and show that work in your assignment you will almost certainly get at least 8 points.

Assignments turned in late shall automatically receive a 2-point deduction with a 1-point deduction for each week beyond the due date. I will not penalize anyone more than 5 points for a late assignment. In other words, if you turn in a perfect assignment that is 6 weeks late, you will get 5 points credit.

If you have any questions about grading please e-mail me at joe@screenstyle.com or discuss it with me in class.

First Week Assignments

For the first week's assignments, I've asked you to do a few things.

1. Please create a blog using www.blogger.com. You will have to name this blog and save it. Include whatever information in your personal profile you'd like to share with the class. After you've saved your blog, please e-mail me at joe@screenstyle.com your name and the name of your blog. I will be posting links to all the class blogs on this class website.

2. Purchase the book Don't Make Me Think by Steve Krug online somewhere. Do not purchase it from Amazon. Document your entire purchasing experience from the moment you searched for the book (how did you search?) to the moment the book arrived. Was your experience a good experience? If so, what did the vendor do right? What did they do wrong? Would you shop there again?

3. You have been given a company (either fictional or real) that will be the foundation for most of your weekly assignments and your final project. Choose a name for this company and then find a domain name using a registrar such as register.com or godaddy.com. Note that the name of your company and the domain name don't have to be exactly the same. It certainly helps but domain names are getting tougher to choose. Your company name may be the East Village Bikes but the domain may have to be east-village-bikes.com.

Create a separate and new post on your blog describing your company for this course. What is the name of the company? What is the domain name? What is the purpose of this company? What services will your company provide? What opportunities for product sales online do you see?
